Mid-Century Monday: Doubleday Place, Durham

August 10, 2020

Each Monday here on the Red Bloom Realty Blog, I highlight a home in the Triangle that is in a mid-century style.  Today’s spot light is on a stunning home on Doubleday Place in Durham

Wow… just… wow.  This is truly a stunning home.  It has a stunning price tag to accompany it.  But, it truly is a sight for mid-century eyes.  Clean, functional lines meet grand design in this 3960 square foot, $1.4 million dollar listing.

Although a little boxy, the vertical lines of the outside of the home (the siding, the windows, the trim) portend the grandeur that awaits you inside.  What a great entry – the angled, wood-clad ceiling and hardwood floors are rich, while the stark walls, pop of door color, and lighting give the feel of an art gallery preparing for the latest Mondrian exhibition.

The kitchen, bath, and bar spaces use consistent, colorful tiling to bring cohesion to the home without any loss of character.  It is a cliche to describe a bathroom as “spa-like,” but these truly do have that feel.  The brightness of the home makes it shine, throughout.  The windows are ample and even the lower level feels open, light, and airy.  The tremendous back deck provides outdoor living to couple with all this indoor brightness.

With 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, and a total of 16 rooms, there is plenty of room to live, play, and work.

See the pictures below and more detail here on our site.  Let me know if you want  set up a showing!
